Mechatronics for Electronics
Provides full support of inter-departmental collaboration, mechatronics for electronic and electrical design, firmware-hardware synchronization in PLM and support of multi-site production processes. Mechatronics serves to synchronize initial and delta updates between electronic CAD and mechanical CAD. The application supports exchange of PCB outline and component placement, common product structure defined in PLM, combined Bill-of-Materials, and exchange of documentation.
Overview
Mechatronics serves to synchronize initial and delta updates between electronic CAD and mechanical CAD. The application covers:
• Exchange of PCB outline and component placement.
• Common product structure in PLM.
• Combined Bill-of-Materials.
• Exchange of documentation.
Support
Integrate functions are configured for the customer’s workflow to support Mechatronics.
Synchronisation of Board Data
In most applications the board outline is first defined in the mechanical system.

The assembly document can be frozen against further exchange by releasing it.
Formats
• Documentation: DXF
• M-CAD data: IDF3
• Special applications: IGES, STEP
Systems

Workflow
• New synchronization
- Fetch the document from the assembly structure in PLM.
- Push the document into the assembly structure, mapping components.
• Delta Update
Place the update from M-CAD on a specific layer and map components.
• Inspect: Overlay IDF and the board display to dimension and discuss changes.
Scope of the Application
| 3D-IDF | Board Outline Mounting Holes Component Placement Cutouts Component Height Keep out Areas |
Collaboration of M-CAD and E-CAD
• Dimension and redline changes in Inspect.
• Perform Delta updates without deleting existing board data by using special layers.

Common Product Structure
The Integrate Module
Build Data Model supports interactive capture of the [sub-]assembly in PLM, to built there the electronic structure.

Build Data Model creates or updates the data model in PLM.

Common BOM

Note:
If the M-CAD system enters mechanical parts behind electronic parts in an update, then Integrate BOM will shift those parts into the mechanical range of the BOM in PLM.
Part Model and Revisioning of Parts
Parts may be common for mechanical and electronic data.

Search in PLM occurs by part number and by revision.

The part may have mechanical items attached. This serves for preview and for common
parts management.
A footprint may have been modified to increase the assembly yield.

In PLM, a look up is supported which footprint revision is used in which design revision is supported.
